Flying international during the pandemic: a mother, her toddler and the story of their 15-hour flight

I was going back home. Flying across continents to return to my own house in Jacksonville, Florida. Lockdown after lockdown ensured that I had overstayed at my mother’s in Mumbai. My 15-month old toddler had been away from his father for months, and me from my husband. And so the journey had to be made. The month before, we had booked several tickets to return and they had all been cancelled. So finally when we heard that Air India was starting evacuation flights, we grabbed the chance.
But booking tickets was perhaps the easiest part.
