Mangaluru: The first Vande Bharat Mission flight from Dubai with 176 passengers on board landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 10.10pm on May 12. This is the first international passenger flight to land at this international airport since the lockdown was announced. Captain Pratyush N Vyas was commander of this flight that had Captain Rishab Shukla as first officer and a four-member cabin crew.
The passengers were given access to money exchange facility, local SIM cards and provided health kits. The district administration also arranged meals for the alighting passengers. Later they were subject to health check-ups and stamped to indicate the duration of institutional quarantine they are supposed to undergo. Post these, the passengers cleared their immigration before being escorted to their indicated place of stay.
The immigration, health and security personnel from CISF at the airport wore personnel protection equipment and all the passengers complied with government guidelines to wear masks and sanitise themselves. The flight that arrived had 95 men, 81 women, 12 with medical emergency, 38 pregnant women and others coming home due to loss of employment, visa expiry and family emergencies.
