More Covid-19 infections at KIA cargo wing

Bengaluru: Rising Covid-19 cases in the cargo section of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has prompted employees to demand extensive testing of staffers as well as a pause in operations.

Over 10 staffers, including four Bengaluru customs officials in the Menzies Bobba building and four from Air India SATS building, tested positive, sources said.

“We fear the virus is spreading in these two buildings given the number of people testing positive and others showing symptoms. We urge authorities to take quick action. Several staffers are over 50 years and have co-morbidities,” a ground staff said on condition of anonymity.

Over 500 people work on any given day in both buildings. According to airport sources, last week a staffer at SATS tested positive, following which a few others in the block also tested positive. A few staffers of an international private cargo operator also turned positive.
