With twin project of AIIMS and airport, NDA's poll fortune takes off in Mithilanchal

Patna: As the tug of war intensifies between RJD led Mahagathbandhan and NDA in poll bound Bihar, the latter has seized the opportunity with announcement of making Darbhanga airport operational just before the model code of conduct comes into force. With the construction work of second All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) about to start in Darbhanga, the NDA is trying to turn the momentum in its favour in Mithilanchal in the upcoming assembly elections.
These two mega projects of AIIMS and an airport at one place in the epicentre of Mithilanchal region will be the main focus in the election campaign of NDA partners — Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal-United (JDU) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) as the connectivity and better medical facility have been the major demand of the region which is considered stronghold of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan. Riding on Muslim-Yadav (MY) combination which forms a large chunk of electorate in Mithilanchal, the RJD has been able to keep its lantern lit in this area since the days of undivided Janata Dal.
The airport and AIIMS will be beneficial for the people of 10 districts comprising more than 50 assembly seats, claims state's water resources minister and senior JDU leader Sanjay Jha who has been instrumental in bringing these projects to Darbhanga. "Nitish Kumar has been a symbol of development which has rendered caste based voting a thing of the past. Even in 2015 assembly polls people voted for Nitish Kumar and not Lalu Yadav with whom we formed an alliance which lasted only two years. This time around people of Mithilanchal will again vote for development. Having AIIMS and airport in this area is not a small achievement", He said.
