Planning to Fly to the Northeast? Here’s all That you Need to Know

A new set of guidelines has been issued for air travel to Northeast India.
A list of travel measures like quick antigen tests, quarantine measures as well as self monitoring guidelines were posted on the official Twitter handle of the Airports Authority of India on October 19. Passengers who wish to visit the Northeast for a duration of less than 72 hours will not be affected by this update.
However, those landing for a long term stay, i.e. more than 72 hours, will have to mandatorily observe a quarantine minimum of 10 days. The Northeastern state governments have also issued a separate set of guidelines for travel specific to their respective state.
COVID tests have been mandated for domestic as well as international tourists by Assam. A provision of a free test which would be sponsored by the government has been provided.
The result for this test could take about five days and the tourist will have to remain in isolation till a result is obtained.
A faster option is to pay a sum of Rs 2,200 to conduct a test through an agency which will provide the result within 24 hours. Those found to be COVID-positive will be moved to a medical facility for further treatment.
