Close shave for 199 air passengers in Chennai

Chennai: A total of 199 passengers, including seven crew members of a Singapore-bound Air India flight had a providential escape, after a technical snag was detected minutes before take off at the Anna International airport in Chennai Wednesday.

Sources said the flight was all set to take off and was about to leave the bay for the runway, when the captains noticed the technical snag. Realising the gravity of the situation, they alerted the Airport Authority of India officials.

A team of aviation engineers checked the snag and tried to set it right after informing the passengers that the departure of the flight would be delayed.

Since the snag could not be rectified even after four hours, the passengers became tense and argued with the crew.

After announcing that the flight was cancelled, all the passengers were disembarked and taken to a private hotel in the city. After rectifying the snag, the flight was set to take off later in the day.
