Air Customs officials seize gold worth Rs 26 lakh at Kannur Int'l Airport, one held

Kannur: Air Customs sleuths on Monday seized 569 grams of gold valued around Rs 26 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Doha.

Customs Assistant Commissioner Madhusoodhana Bhat-led team detained Hamsa Kutty of Kurumathur in Kannur district in this connection.

The seized gold was in compound form and it was concealed in his inner-wear, customs sources said. With today's gold seizure, the total quantity of gold seized at the airport in the year 2020-2021 crossed 50 kilograms, customs sources said.Yesterday also Customs officials seized 1841 grams of gold valued around Rs 84 lakh from a family who arrived from Sharjah in an Air India flight.
