Women arrested from Kochi airport in bid to smuggle Rs 1 cr worth hashish

Nedumbassery: A woman was arrested from the Kochi airport while trying to smuggle over 1 kilogram of hashish abroad. The arrested woman was identified as Thrissur Venginissery native Ramiya (33). The CISF personnel seized 1.210 kilogram hashish from her during body scanning at the airport.

Ramiya was going to Bahrain in Air India Express flight on Tuesday morning. She had hidden the hashish inside her inner garments. The seized hashish is worth Rs 1 crore in the international market. She was handed over to Nedumbassery police and her arrest recorded.

Ramiya had travelled to Gulf countries before this. Last time she had stayed in Gulf for about 10 days. The police are investigating if she had smuggled drugs before this too and about the supplier who gave her the hashish.

District police chief K Karthik said that a detailed probe will be conducted into the incident. The police had seized about 4 kilograms of banned tobacco products from different people during an inspection held on the airport premises the other day.
