Airlines get crew, families vaccinated

After pilots of Air India recently threatened to stop flying if the airline failed to set up vaccination centres for the crew, the national carrier said that it would vaccinate all its employees by the end of May. Private airlines too have started vaccination drives for their crew and families.
AirAsia India has said that it has already conducted three vaccination drives in Bengaluru and the NCR area for its staff and family members. “In line with AirAsia India’s core values of People First and Safety Always, we recently conducted three vaccination drives for AirAsia Allstars (AirAsia India employees) and family members in Bengaluru, New Delhi and Gurgaon as part of Phase 2 of the Covid vaccination drive,” said an AirAsia India Spokesperson. He added that the airline is now looking forward to covering all our employees in the Phase 3 of the vaccination drive under which all people above the 18 years would be eligible to get themselves vaccinated. “The turnout for the drive was very promising and we have started the vaccination process for all and we are looking forward to covering all our employees in the Phase 3 of the vaccination drive,” the spokesperson said.
Similarly, Vistara also said that it has begun the vaccination drive to get its employees vaccinated at the earliest. “We are leveraging the vaccination drives in different cities across our network and our staff is getting vaccinated progressively. We are also tying up with various hospitals and government agencies to set-up exclusive vaccination camps at our premises for our employees. We are following all guidelines issued by DGCA in this regard including giving time off to the crew post vaccination,” said a Vistara spokesperson.
Another Bengaluru-headquartered airline Star Air said that while it is yet to start vaccinating its pilots and cabin crew, the airline would be making a representation to the Karnataka Government for the same.
