Gold worth nearly two crore rupees seized at Karipur airport

Malappuram: The Air Customs Intelligence at the Calicut International airport in Karipur near here on Saturday seized gold from two passengers from the Middle East who arrived at the airport early this morning.

The officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence were also involved in the seizure of the 3.33 kgs of gold, worth approximately Rs 1.20 crores, from the two NRIs.

A case has been registered against the smugglers, Vatakara-native Abdul Sherif and Malappuram native Nasheed Ali.

There has been several instances of smuggling of gold, some in the form of liquid gold, by passengers from the Middle East reaching in the four international airports in Kerala since for long.

Recently, few customs officials attached to Calicut airport were booked by a Central Bureau of Investigation team, allegedly for facilitating gold smuggling.
