NPRAAF raises questions over proposed Ciethu airport

Dimapur: A day after the state chief minister Neiphiu Rio took to twitter to thank the ministry of defence for conveying “No Objection” for Ciethu Airport in Kohima, the Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has questioned whether the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had conducted survey and issued “eco-techno, feasibility and safety clearance” for development of Ciethu greenfield airport.

NPRAAF through its information and publicity cell has urged the chief minister to clarify whether defence ministry or civil aviation ministry was the right body to conduct survey and issue NOC. The forum also sought to know whether NOC from the defence ministry was “good enough to go ahead with purchase of land and construction of approach road and other needful development for establishing an airport.”

NPRAAF said that the matter was not about NOC issued by defence ministry, but why did the state government acquire “such a colossal area of land to be paid compensation without obtaining feasibility report and technical clearance from the AAI and civil aviation ministry.”
