Spicejet resumes services from Vijayawada airport

Vijayawada: After a three month long hiatus, SpiceJet has finally resumed its services at Vijayawada Airport from Friday. The airline stopped its service during the second wave of Covid-19. With the number of positive cases declining in the state, the airline has once again resumed operations with a flight from Vijayawada to Bengaluru taking off on Friday. Vijayawada Airport used to operate 46 flights daily during the pre-Covid period.

However, during the second wave, barely 8 to 12 flights were being operated per day with Indigo and Air India being the sole providers to restricted destinations like Hyderabad, Bengaluru and New Delhi. Official sources said that the occupancy of the flights had taken a hit due to restrictions imposed at the destination by the respective state governments.

Airport officials are hoping to see more international flights in the coming months with the extended runway becoming operational.
