SpiceJet flight from Bengaluru to Bagdogra diverted to Kolkata owing to bad weather

Kolkata: A SpiceJet flight from Bengaluru to Bagdogra in West Bengal was diverted to Kolkata on Monday morning owing to bad weather conditions.

The aircraft - SpiceJet SG 327 - landed at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata with 24 passengers and seven crew members on board.

Officials said the aircraft was at Kolkata airport for more than two hours before departing for Bagdogra around 12 noon.

"Due to bad weather in Bagdogra (IXB), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected," SpiceJet said in a tweet on Monday.

At the same time, four IndiGo flights slated to depart from Kolkata airport were also cancelled citing operational reasons. Two of those flights were scheduled to Chennai, one to Agartala and the fourth to Hyderabad.

Nearly 48 flights scheduled to depart from Kolkata were delayed owing to unfavourable weather conditions on Friday, according to a report. A number of incoming planes were also diverted as a precautionary measure.

Heavy rain lashed the six southern districts of West Bengal throughout the weekend. Four people were also killed and another seven injured in lightning strikes in separate incidents reported from Hooghly and Purba Bardhaman districts.
