In a bid to boost the economy of the region, the cargo services were launched at Dibrugarh Airport on Tuesday.
Airport Director Ramjee Awasthi said that a “full-fledged cargo terminal at Dibrugarh Airport is also under development and is at various stages of permission.
“The Airport had been aiming to start offering movement of Air Cargo for the convenience of people and businesses and to support the development and growth of the region. Hence, consequent to getting approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, this service has been started from the passenger terminal building itself till the time Cargo Terminal becomes ready for operations,” Awasthi said.
“From now on, shipments can be sent almost anywhere from Dibrugarh Airport with fast shipping and reliable delivery time,” he said.
Awasthi said that Air Cargo, being a trade facilitator, will contribute to the economic growth of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and other adjoining regions by carrying important shipments such as tea, fresh fish, flowers, fruits and other local high value and perishable goods all over the country and further to the other parts of the world.
Air Cargo can play a major role in boosting the economy and in the creation of employment opportunities, he added.
All the four scheduled airlines operating from Dibrugarh Airport–Air India, Indigo, Vistara as well as Flybig will provide the services.
