Four Indian airports in Skytrax in top 100 airport list for 2021; Mumbai falls & Delhi rises in rankings

New Delhi: Four Indian airports — Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru — found a place in the world’s 100 best airports by UK-based airline and airport review consultancy Skytrax.

The list — World’s Top 100 Airports 2021 — has Delhi at number 45 (up five places from number 50 in 2020), Hyderabad at 64 ( up seven from 71 in 2020), Mumbai at 65 (down 13 from 52nd rank in 2020) and Bengaluru at 71 (down three places from 68th rank in 2020).

Clearly, the Adani group which recently took over Mumbai will need to work hard to take Mumbai’s ranking up in next year’s listing.

The top five in Skytrax’s World’s Top 100 Airports 2021 list are — Doha Hamad (number 3 in 2020), Tokyo Haneda (second spot in 2020 also), Singapore Changi (1 in 2020), Seoul Incheon (fourth in 2020 also) and Tokyo Narita (at number 7 in 2020).

In a statement, the GMR Group — that runs Delhi and Hyderabad airports — said: “Delhi airport has improved its overall ranking, moving from number 50 in 2020 to number 45 in the 2021 World’s Top 50 airport league. This achievement marks the first Indian airport to achieve this feat.”

Delhi airport CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said: “The real praise and success behind winning this remarkable achievement goes to all the airport staff, stakeholders and partners working at Delhi Airport, who have shown a constant resilience, focus and customer centricity. We take immense pride in receiving this prestigious accolade. DIAL continues to serve as a benchmark for airports around the world. Our agile and effective response to the pandemic and crisis preparedness has led us to be recognised by Skytrax. Adopting the ‘new-normal’, DIAL remains committed to boosting its efforts in providing the best airport experience to all its passengers.”
