Pune to get 5 new flights connecting to tier-2 cities by end of month

Pune: Starting this month, several airlines are introducing new flights connecting Pune to tier-II cities. According to the airline sources, this initiative has been taken to witness the needs of the people.

For employment opportunities, people migrate from smaller cities to more extensive areas. The ease in negotiating slots in smaller airports has encouraged airlines to take this step even during the pandemic.

The Pune city recently introduced three new connections - Nashik, Belagavi, and Surat. Now, the city airport will have direct flights to Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, Amritsar, Gwalior (from August 20), and Tirupati. The Pune-Goa flight would also resume soon.

An airport official told The Times of India, "Ranchi is a new sector for the airport, and there was no direct flight from here earlier. But now, new connections are being introduced. With Amritsar, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati also getting connected, we expect passenger traffic to rise."

Another airline source added that they have witnessed several people from smaller towns traveling to cities, most likely for employment. Profit is a primary concern for any airline before introducing flights, and profits don't always come from passenger load.
