Goa airport becomes first to install DVOR for safe navigation of flights

Goa: The Goa Airport at Dabolim has become the first airport in India to have installed the latest technology in Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range (DVOR ) system for safe navigation of flights.

According to Gagan Malik Airport director, The airport in Goa is the first in India the latest technology in the DVOR systems. This entire project was taken up at an approximate cost of 5 crore, and this is the latest technology in the DVOR systems.

DVOR is a standard International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO). Ground-based radio navigational aid that provides bearing information to aircraft to define air traffic control routes for en-route, terminal and instrument approach/ departure procedures. The DVOR basically gives information on route positions and emits signals to aircraft and this makes the aircraft understand that they are on the right route.

Whenever an aircraft has to land, they have to follow a route procedure and the flight has to position its landing route after coming into the DVOR system and if the flight does not get the DVOR , they will face issues in landing.

Every aircraft in and around the airport or are flying above the airport get confirmation through this system that they are on the right route and the distance specified between them is correctly maintained and this enhances the air safety of aircrafts besides helping them.
