Kolkata: Two men flying in from Dubai were caught carrying gold paste hidden in their undergarments at Kolkata airport on Friday.
The ‘gold paste’ is a mixture of gold dust and a chemical that gives it a paste-like texture and is easier to hide in pockets, an officer said.
A senior official said the duo were spotted walking in an ‘unusual’ way.
On frisking them, the customs department officials said they found polythene pouches of gold paste stuffed inside tailor-made pockets in their innerwears. “Gold in paste form weighing 562.65 gram was seized from two passengers from Dubai. The total worth is Rs 26.72 lakh,” said an official.
The customs department refused to divulge personal details of the accused duo. None of them was arrested as the value of seizure was less than Rs 20 lakh individually.
