Adani Group takes over operations of Guwahati International Airport in India

Adani Guwahati International Airport Limited (AGIAL) has assumed the management, development and operations of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati, Assam, India.

In 2018, Guwahati airport was one among the list of six airports, Lucknow (LKO), Mangalore (IXE), Ahmedabad (AMD), Jaipur (JAI) and Thiruvananthapuram, put up by the Indian Government for privatisation for operations, management and development (OMD) for a period of five decades.

Adani Enterprise Limited became the successful bidder for all these airports, following which a concession agreement between the AAI and Adani Enterprise Limited was signed earlier this year.

Initially, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which maintains the country’s civil aviation infrastructure in the country, will support Adani Group in running the airport for a period of three years.

Additionally, AAI will be responsible for the security and air traffic communication during this period while the displaced airport employees could be posted to other airports in the country, according to media reports.

AAI was supposed to hand over Jaipur, Gawahati and Thiruvananthapuram airports in January, but this was delayed.
