Scindia flags off Shillong-Dimapur flight service

Union civil aviation minister, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Monday virtually flagged off the first direct flight between Shillong-Dimapur under the Regional Connectivity Scheme– UdeDeshKaAamNaagrik (RCS-UDAN).

The inaugural flight landed at Dimapur airport at around 3.30 p.m. Addressing the virtual event, Scindia emphasized that only six airports were operational in North East in 2014. However, this has now risen to 15 airports in 2021. 

“Within a short span of 7 years, we have achieved this ambitious target. I assure you that this is just the beginning, we are further committed to enhancing the interstate & intrastate connectivity of North-East,” he said. Apart from promoting flight connectivity, Scindia said Centre was focussed on developing the infrastructure capabilities along with helicopter services for the last mile delivery. Besides Dimapur sector, the flight operations from Shillong to Imphal and Dibrugarh was also launched on Monday, to be operated by Indigo Airlines.

As announced on November 18, Alliance Air had also informed multiple flight operations in the North East in order to connect multiple regional dots on the aviation map.
