5kg gold worth Rs 2 crore seized from seven passengers at Kochi airport

Kochi: The air intelligence unit and customs sleuths at Cochin International Airport seized 5.064 kg of gold from seven passengers, including a woman, on Sunday.

According to a report published in The New Indian Express (TNIE), the passengers had arrived at Kochi airport from Bahrain, Sharjah and Dubai flights in the early hours of Sunday. These passengers originally belonged to Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Reportedly, the gold compound was secretly kept inside capsule-shaped packets in the rectum of the passengers. Moreover, the seized gold is said to be worth approximately Rs 2 crore.

A total of 1.032kg gold compound was seized from one of the passengers named Anas Jihad while 778gm of gold compound was recovered from Noufal P Parampath who had arrived on the Baharain flight.

As much as 501gm of gold was seized by the customs team from Mohammed Irfan Ali. 543gm was recovered from Ashar Mohammed Amar who had come from Sharjah. Similarly, coming from Dubai, Sibi Saji, Musbah Mohammed Ishaq and Anjum Sufian carried 1.071kg, 597gm and 542gm of gold, respectively.
