Bigger airport needed for tourism development in Himachal Pradesh: CM

Dharrmasala: Underlining the need to have better air connectivity in absence of good rail network to attract tourists, chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday requested those opposing the Greenfield airport in Mandi district not to stop the project which not only would contribute in the development of state but would also be an asset for the coming generation.

Issue of constructing greenfield airport in Mandi district echoed in state assembly on Wednesday as the CPM MLA Rakesh Singha questioned the acquisition of private land for the project while chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said that project is must for the development of state and coming generations.

CPM MLA Rakesh Singha had asked the state government to tell whether as per the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 are there any provisions to acquire multiple crop Land of the farmers; if yes, under what provisions of the Act.

He also wanted to know how many families will be displaced after acquisition of land for the Nag-Chala Airport; where does the government propose to give them alternative land and what is the price of land that would be provided to the displaced farmers.
