Mumbai airport brings down rapid RT-PCR test charges below £20

Mumbai’S international airport has halved the charges for rapid RT-PCR testing at its facility to Rs 1,975 (£19.53) following the Maharashtra state government’s directives.

The rapid RT-PCR charges at the Adani Group-owned Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport earlier stood at Rs 3,900 (£38.57), which were a scale down from the Rs 4,500 (£44.51) charged previously.

In a letter to the additional secretary in the central government’s health ministry earlier this month, the state government said that though the operator had agreed to bring down the charges for the rapid RT-PCR test, they were still “very high” compared to the rates being charged by other airports such as Bangalore, Chennai and Kochi in south India.

In a statement, the airport operator said the lowering of the rapid RT-PCR test charges was in line with the latest directive from the state government.

However, the standard RT-PCR testing will continue to cost Rs 500 (£4.95).
