Chennai: People flying to the UAE from Chennai airport are facing a hassle as the pre-departure rapid RT-PCR test is turning positive even when the mandatory regular RT-PCR taken 72 hours before departure is negative.
As repeat tests are often not done, people are forced to cancel the trip. A passenger had to cancel his trip thrice after a rapid test turned positive at the airport. The regular RT-PCR test he took in private labs soon after reaching home from the airport was negative.
Travel agents too said there have been a few instances when passengers had to cancel trips because the rapid test was positive. UAE insists that travellers from India should take a pre-departure rapid test at the airport.
N Ravi, who had to cancel his trip thrice last month, said: “There was hardly any exposure between the time I had given the regular RT-PCR test and reaching the airport. The staff at the labs at the airport did not accept my request to take a repeat test. This is a shock to many passengers.”
