Sharp rise in flights, passenger footfall in Guwahati airport

Guwahati: The number of both flights and passengers is showing a sharp rise at Guwahati airport. Within a span of weeks, as the number of air travellers has gone up two fold in the biggest airport in the northeast, airport officials said it has been heartening to see airlines adding more flights in the popular routes from the state capital.

"The latest addition is Vistara airline. Vistara, the world’s 4-star airline, has introduced a new flight from Guwahati to Bengaluru on weekdays, except Tuesday and Wednesday," said an official of the airport. She said the flight, introduced last year, had to be suspended due to the third wave of the pandemic. “Vistara has now decided to operate the route effective from February 15,” she added.

This is the latest addition of connectivity at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport which will help passengers from Guwahati to Bangalore, a route for which there is always a rush for tickets, she said. The airport official said it will send a positive signal to other operators which are willing to resume flights as the third wave has almost died down in Assam.
