Goa-Mumbai Flight Gets Delayed Because A Scared Flyer Refused To Sit Down

Flights can get delayed due to several reasons - bad weather, unavailability of the runway, other issues with Air traffic control (ATC) are often the causes.

But a flight from Goa to Mumbai was delayed for an unusual reason. The captain could not land the flight because one flyer was standing and refused to sit down on his seat as per protocol.

The incident happened on Sunday on an IndiGo flight.

A flyer, identified as Salman Nadeen Khan created drama onboard the flight soon after the flight took off from the Dabolim airport in Goa.

Khan, said to be a businessman from Delhi's Jama Masjid area took his cabin bag and went to the cabin crew saying that he was scared and wanted to speak to the captain.

But when the cabin crew said he can't enter the cockpit, Khan refused to go back to his seat and stood in the galley holding his bag during the entire flight.

Even when the flight was about to land when all passengers and crew members are mandated to sit on their seats Khan refused.

This resulted in the captain being forced to abort the landing and go around.

After the flight got delayed due to Khan's behaviour, other passengers overpowered and held him down on his seat, allowing the captain to land the aircraft safely.

Upon landing in Mumbai, Khan was handed over to the CISF and was booked under Sections 336 (negligent act endangering human life or the personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 110 of Maharashtra Police Act and Sections 22, 29 and 161 of Aircraft Act 1937.

He was, however, granted bail the same day.

According to officials, Khan was neither drunk nor a first-time flyer.

He was suffering from anxiety and was scared.
