Chennai: Air customs sleuths at Chennai airport seized 990 gram of gold, worth Rs 44.25 lakh, from a passenger who arrived here from Dubai on Friday. The passenger, who had concealed gold stitched to his undergarment, was arrested.
Following a tip-off that there might be an attempt to smuggle in gold, customs officials intercepted Mohammad Yasar Arabath, 32, of Chennai soon after he landed here in a Flydubai flight.
A check revealed that he had a plastic pouch stitched to his undergarments. A gold ingot weighing 990 gram was found in it, according to a press release.
