Gold worth Rs 34.8 lakh seized at Pune airport; one held

Pune: The Customs officials at the Pune International Airport seized gold worth Rs 34.8 lakh (approx) and also arrested a man in the gold smuggling case on February 7.

According to a report published in The Indian Express (IE), the Air Intelligence Unit of Pune Customs received information about the suspicious passenger who had travelled from Dubai to Ahmedabad and then concealed the gold while travelling to Pune from Ahmedabad.

Acting on a tip-off, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit of Pune Customs intercepted the man and found 705 grams of gold bars and pieces concealed in his shoes.

The seized gold was worth Rs 34.8 lakh and the passenger had been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962.
