Patna airport’s new DVOR will be operational between March & Apr

Patna: The new terminal building of the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport, which is undergoing an upgrade with the addition of high-tech equipment, is scheduled to open in December, 2023.

The city airport is replacing outdated equipment dating back 17 years with a sophisticated navigational aid, the Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Range (DVOR), and an instrument landing system (ILS), to ensure that aircraft safely land even in adverse weather conditions and operate on time.

The new DVOR is located on 16.5 acres of state-allocated land and will facilitate aircraft take-off and landing in inclement weather. It will be operational between March and April following its commissioning by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

“The final commissioning date for the new DVOR will be announced in due course. The communication, navigation and surveillance department of the Airports Authority of India oversaw the installation of the navigational facility,” sources told TOI, adding that the previous equipment was outdated and inoperable.

The DVOR equipment costs Rs 3 crore, and the total cost of electrical and civil engineering work required to install it is expected to be Rs 2.36 crore.
