AC snag forces SpiceJet to cancel flight before takeoff

Pune: A SpiceJet flight from Pune to Ahmedabad, with 85 passengers on board, was forced to return to the parking bay from the taxiway just before the takeoff, due to air conditioning system malfunction. The flight, which was eventually cancelled, was delayed by almost 1 hour and 15 minutes before moving along the taxiway to the take-off point.

The flight (SG-1083) was to take off at 2.30pm and reach Ahmedabad at 3.45pm. "The initial delay was because an incoming aircraft was late. The revised departure time was 3.45pm. We boarded the flight, but the problem was just starting," Surendra Ghaskadbi, a senior citizen flyer, told TOI.

He said the flight came near the runway for takeoff. "However, the flyers were already hassled as the air conditioning system was not working. Apparently, the crew and the captain realized the same, and the flight finally did not take off. It came back to the base. After a while, all the flyers were asked to deboard," he added.

A detailed query via a WhatsApp message was sent to the airline around 4.50pm, but there was no response till the time of going to press.

The flyers were taken to the arrival area at the airport and asked to wait. "There were very few seats in the arrival area and many of us, including senior citizens and women, had to stand for long with no information from the airline. We didn't know what to do as our luggage was inside the aircraft. Around 5.30pm, we were told to go through the security check again and all the flyers came to the departure area. However, we had no idea when the flight would take off. Earlier, the airline officials had said the technicians were working on the fault and take off would be by 5.30pm," Ghaskadbi said.

Another passenger questioned the transfer to the arrival area. "It was a hassle to go through the security check process again," the flyer said.
