1 held with bullets at Kolkata airport

Kolkata: A man, Mohammed Ghalib, was arrested at Kolkata airport on Friday for allegedly trying to board a flight with four live ammunition without any legal documents, the police said. He was produced before a district court on Saturday and remanded to police custody.

Cops said the 7.65mm bullets were found in the accused's hand baggage when he and his mother, Abda Khatun, kept their bags for screening at the security hold area 4 around 7.30pm. They were about to board an Air Asia flight to Bengaluru before they were stopped at the screening zone by the CISF, an airport official said.

"Once the bullets were detected, they were taken aside for questioning. The man couldn't provide any documents and claimed he had no knowledge about the bullets. Khatun's bag was searched, but on finding nothing suspicious, she was allowed to go. Ghalib was handed over to NSCBI airport police station," an airport official said.

Cops said Ghalib, resident of Bihar's Bundelkhand, was travelling for Khatun's treatment. "We are questioning him, checking airport CCTV footage and contacted Bihar police for a background check," cops said.
