Delhi airport theft racket busted, two men held

New Delhi: A theft racket running near Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport has been busted with the arrest of two men, police said on Saturday. The two accused, Manish Kumar (22) and Satender Yadav (35), work as drivers with private logistic firms at Mahipalpur, they said.

Senior officials said the gang used to steal mobile phones from shipments while transporting them from logistics to the airport's cargo area. Their associate, Sher Singh (25), who hails from Bareilly, UP, used to sell the stolen mobile phones. He has also been arrested, police said.

At least 12 mobile phones have been recovered from them, police said.

The complainant in the case, Jaswant Singh, told police that a total of 17 mobile phones were stolen from their consignments, which were to be exported to Dubai.

"The phones were stolen by pilfering the consignments when they were on the way from their warehouse in Rangpuri to the Cargo Area, IGI Airport. During the investigation, the stolen mobile phones were put on surveillance and a few days later, some of the mobile phones were found active in Bareilly and surrounding areas. Further probe revealed that these mobile phones had been sold to different customers by a local in Bareilly, who was identified as Sher Singh," said deputy commissioner of police (IGIA) Ravi Kumar Singh.

The DCP said a raid was then conducted in Bareilly and Singh was arrested.
