Hansa-III took its maiden flight on May 11: Know these interesting facts about India’s first indigenous aircraft

New Delhi: India successfully conducted Pokhran II, a series of five nuclear explosive tests, on May 11, 1998, at the Army’s Pokhran Test Range, steeping into the list of few countries having nuclear weapons. This was the second nuclear test, codenamed Operation Shakti, after the first successful nuclear test conducted in May 1974. To honour this achievement, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared National Technology Day, which was first observed in 1999. In addition to that, India made several other achievements on this date in the field of science and technology, including the first maiden flight of the country’s indigenous aircraft, the HANSA-III.
