Flyer coming from Malawi arrested in Hyderabad with heroin worth over Rs 41 crore

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport seized heroin worth over Rs 41 crore from a flyer who arrived from Malawi via Doha, Qatar, on Sunday night.

An examination of the checked-in baggage of the flyer, an Indian woman, resulted in the recovery of 5.90 kg of creamy white granules in transparent packets, concealed within false cavities inside her suitcase.

On testing with the narcotics field-testing kits, the substance tested positive for heroin, a narcotic drug covered under the NDPS Act 1985, the DRI said Monday. The flyer was intercepted on the basis of specific intelligence, according to the agency.

The seized substance is valued approximately at Rs 41.3 crore in the illicit market. The flyer was arrested and remanded in judicial custody under the provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigations are underway.
