4 held in Surat airport with 7kg gold paste worth Rs 4.75 crore

The officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) of the Surat branch Friday arrested four persons with 7 kg gold paste worth Rs 4.75 crore.

The officials said while two passengers were waiting at Surat airport, two others came from Sharjah to deliver the paste. The DRI officials arrested all the four, identified as Fenil Mawani, Nirav Davariya, Umesh Bhikhariya and Sawan Rakholiya.

After primary investigations, it was found that Fenil and Nirav had bought gold from a market in Dubai and had melted it into a paste to hide it in the shoe sole and under garments. Meanwhile, Umesh and Sawan were waiting outside the airport to receive the paste. All the four accused have been forwarded to judicial custody at Surat central jail.

A DRI official said, “A hunt is on to nab the others who are a part of this racket. We have information that a person in Surat and another in Dubai are involved.”
