Air Asia official booked for death of employee after falling off ladder while deboarding plane at Pune Airport: police

Months after a security agent working with airline AIX Connect, formerly known as Air Asia, lost his life after falling while deboarding a plane from its rear door at Pune airport, Pune Police have booked an official of the company on the charges of causing death due to negligence as he failed to provide safety gear and equipment to the security agent.

The incident had taken place around 6.20 am on April 11 while Pune-Delhi flight I5-767 was preparing to depart from Pune airport. The deceased airline staffer was identified as Vivin Anthony Dominic (34), a resident of Lohegaon, Pune. Initial probe had suggested that Dominic was standing on the ladder which was attached to the rear side door of the aeroplane. When the ladder was being removed, the staffer fell down and sustained grievous injuries. At the time, a case of accidental death pending probe into the causes was registered.

Senior Inspector Vilas Sonde, in-charge of Vimantal police station, said, “Following an inquiry into the accidental death case and based on the complaint filed by the wife of the deceased, we have registered a case on Saturday night under the charges of causing death due to negligence. Probe indicates that the deceased was not wearing any safety gear including helmet, safety belt and vest etc. In the absence of these measures, the deceased sustained fatal injuries after the fall from the ladder. We have booked a manager from the company who was in-charge of safety and security at the time of the incident for failing to take the security measures.”
