AAI gets possession of 20- acre land at Bhopal airport

Bhopal: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has acquired a 20-acre parcel of land at Bhopal Airport, following a recent favourable ruling by the Madhya Pradesh high court. The land was contested by the Bharat Scouts and Guides for many years and it was also running a training center.

With the ruling in its favour, AAI now possesses a total of 1106 acres of land, which will facilitate the ongoing expansion efforts at the airport. In February 2023, AAI officially asserted its ownership of the land and took physical possession with the assistance of the district administration. The Bharat Scouts and Guides moved to court against AAI but they did not get the relief.

A senior official told TOI that the land had always belonged to the AAI. “After getting the land the biggest concern of the security is now over. Bhopal airport can now easily continue its expansion work,” said the official on anonymity.

After Covid-19, Bhopal airport has launched several expansion works. However, the biggest obstacle was the land grabbed by the Bharat Scouts and Guides. The area near the Bharat Scouts and Guides was open and allowed the animals and unauthorized persons to enter.
