Parking, shopping complex at city airport by year-end

Patna: In about a year, Patna's Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport will appear in a completely new avatar with a new terminal building replacing the existing one. Not only this, the infrastructural development around the terminal building is being completed on a war footing.

In the mean time, the construction of a six-storey building at the airport, which will house a multi-level car parking and shopping complex, is complete and it is likely to be operational by year-end. A tender for the development of the internal infrastructure of the shopping complex, office and parking lot has been issued recently. The chosen nodal agency will be given three months' time for the development.

According to an airport official, the tender for the development works will be opened by mid-September. "The seven-storey building, spread over 3.5 lakh square feet, is 118m long and 42m wide. It has a G+5 structure, including the basement, with each floor having an area of about 5,000sqm. The parking facility will be developed in the basement, ground floor and the first four floors, which will be able to accommodate more than 750 four-wheelers at a time, while the top floor of the building is earmarked for commercial purposes," he said.

The official added the parking facility is being developed in view of future needs. "After the completion of the new terminal building next year, the air operations at Patna airport will increase very rapidly. The number of passengers would also increase significantly, requiring more space for parking," the official said.
