Elderly woman booked for bomb prank at airport

Pune: A 72-year-old woman, who was to board a flight to New Delhi, was booked on charges of public mischief and giving false information after she told a CISF constable at the frisking booth in the city airport’s security hold area that ‘bombs are strapped all around me.’

The Lohegaon airport is among Indian Air Force’s strategically vital air bases.

The woman Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable, Deepali Zavare, immediately took the senior citizen aside along with two of her kin. She reported the matter to her superior and the company commander. The baggage of the three was thoroughly checked, but nothing suspicious was found.

The elderly woman was taken to the Airport police station, where a case was registered under sections 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and 182 (giving false information) of the Indian Penal Code.

senior inspector Vilas Sonde said, “The woman, who was a garment trader before retiring, told the CISF and police officials that she made the remark in jest — since she was angry and wanted to avoid checking at the frisking booth. She told us that she had no intention to create panic and give false information to CISF personnel. The woman from Gurugram was in Pune with her two relatives to attend a spiritual event. She was to board a 2.20pm flight to New Delhi on her return trip.”
