Airport bomb hoax caller mentally ill, says Mumbai crime branch

Mumbai: A threat call about a bomb being planted at the Mumbai international airport on Friday turned out to be a hoax.

Authorities checked the airport thoroughly but found nothing untoward. While Sahar police registered an FIR, crime branch with the help of local police in Tamil Nadu tracked the call to Pondicherry. Officials said the caller was suffering from a mental health condition.

Haryana police had received the threat call on Friday, around 3.30pm, where the caller announced that the Delhi as well as Mumbai airports would witness explosions by night.

The Haryana police communicated the information to the Mumbai Police who immediately alerted authorities at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and the CISF.

Massive checks were carried out as all threat calls are taken seriously. But nothing untoward was found. An FIR was registered at Sahar police station.
