Mumbai: A 28-year-old man from Kolhapur who smuggled gold worth Rs 1.3 crore was arrested by the Customs on Saturday. The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs arrested Akshay Tanaji Patil, a native of Kolhapur under the provisions of Customs act.
On specific intelligence and digital profiling, the officials of AIU intercepted Patil who arrived from Dubai on Thursday. On examination of his baggage nothing suspicious was found however during his personal search resulted in recovery of gold dust. The gold dust which was in the form of wax was concealed in two pouches having gross weight of 2,454 grams which is valued at Rs 1.3 crores.
Patil admitted that he was aware that he was carrying gold and smuggled this gold for a syndicate.
