Gold worth 40L seized at Cochin airport

Kochi: Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials at the Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial) foiled yet another bid to smuggle in gold through the airport.

Customs intercepted a passenger, Rahul of Thrissur, and recovered as much as 788g of gold from him. The seized gold has an estimated value of Rs 40 lakh.

Customs said that the passenger was intercepted on the basis of profiling done by AIU officials. The passenger landed at Cial from Dubai by flight SG 17 on Friday. “During examination, three capsule shaped packets containing gold in paste form concealed inside his rectum were recovered,” said an official.
