Kozhikode: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has intensified the probe into the seizure of narcotics worth Rs 44 crore from a UP native who arrived on Monday at the Calicut International Airport.
In one of the biggest drug hauls in recent times at the Kozhikode airport, the DRI sleuths had seized 3.4kg of cocaine and 1.2kg of heroin from Rajeev Kumar (27) of Muzaffarnagar.
Kumar, who had arrived from Nairobi in Kenya via Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight (G9-454) was carrying the drugs in packets concealed in his baggage.
According to sources, DRI has received information about the involvement of another UP native settled in Uganda in the drug smuggling bid. He had allegedly provided the drug packets to Kumar.
The examination of Kumar's baggage resulted in the recovery of 3,490g of cocaine and 1,296g of cocaine hidden inside shoes, handbags, picture boards, and purses. As many as 20 packets of narcotics were recovered in all, which had a total value of Rs 44.6 crore in the international market, according to the DRI.
According to sources, Kumar had gone to Uganda on a visit visa in the second week of August from Nagpur.
