Exorbitant air rates during seasons: KMCC urges state govt to establish Chandy's Air Kerala

Kozhikode: In a press meet, KMCC (Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre) Dubai office bearers said that airlines are robbing Gulf passengers by charging exorbitant rates from them during seasons. 
They also demanded that Air Kerala, which was conceived by Oommen Chandy when he was chief minister should be implemented soon. KMCC acting president, Ibrahim Murichandy, said that expats travelling with family back from Dubai with the schools opening after holidays are paying lakhs of rupees for tickets alone. 
Etihad airlines charges Rs 75,486 for Kochi-Dubai travel while Emirates charges Rs 72,872 and Air India Express Rs 39,106. Meanwhile, on the same day, the charge to travel from Mumbai-Dubai is Rs 20,859. The fare charged by Qatar Airways from Kozhikode-Doha on August 31 was Rs 71,549 while Air India Express charged Rs 44,532.
 On the same day, the fare from Bangalore-Doha was Rs 30,505. KMCC office bearers pointed out that when the rush increases, airlines hike their fares in the Gulf sector however they want.This seasonal hike is in addition to the 41% increase in ticket prices that came into effect during the Covid-19 pandemic.
