Jaipur: The Jaipur International Airport is undergoing expansion works to handle 10% expected year-on-year growth in passenger traffic in coming years, said officials on Monday. Development work in the landside area and inside the terminal building are in full swing after prior approvals from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
“Last year, the total passenger traffic was 4.98 million, which is likely to witness 10% year on year growth. Expecting the growth trends, the airport is expanding its capacity to meet future requirements. The Central Government is also focusing on connectivity to smaller cities so passenger traffic will certainly increase in coming years” said a senior airport official.
Airport officials said that presently there are 26 check-in counters in the departure area of Terminal 2 while construction of 13 more counters is underway. “Seating capacity on the first floor of the departure area has been increased by 100 by shifting the boarding gate along with construction of an ultra-luxury lounge for the comfort of passengers. Refurbishment of the lounge on the ground floor is also on the cards. Other major changes include installation of additional baggage conveyor belts in domestic departure, deployment of additional security personnel and X-ray machines in security hold area,” said an airport official.
