Trichy: The air intelligence unit of the customs at Trichy International Airport have seized gold in the form of capsules valued at Rs 1.5 crore from four passengers who arrived here from various destinations in two separate incidents.
The customs authorities developed suspicion over the activities of two passengers who arrived at the airport on Monday from Kuala Lumpur on an Air Asia flight. When the authorities checked the two passengers, the officials found that they had concealed gold weighing 834 grams valued at Rs 48.5 lakh extracted from gold paste kept in a capsule form and concealed in their rectum.
In another incident on Sunday, the customs authorities seized 1.8 kg of gold in the form of paste from two passengers who arrived from Dubai on an Air India Express flight. The seized gold is valued at Rs 1.05 crore, official sources said.
