Farmers Yet to Receive Compensation for Jewar Airport Land, Say Leaders

Farmers who surrendered their land for the development of the Noida International Airport at Jewar are yet to receive compensation, according to farmer leaders who raised the issue during a meeting of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). All India Kisan Khet Mazdoor Sangathan (AIKKMS) president Satyavan said land acquisition for major infrastructure projects continues to be a contentious issue and alleged that affected farmers in Uttar Pradesh are still awaiting compensation for land acquired for the airport.

Satyavan also claimed that farmers in 519 villages along the proposed Ganga Expressway corridor between Meerut and Allahabad have been instructed not to sell their land, indicating the possibility of further acquisitions. He said concerns over land acquisition, compensation and rehabilitation remain major issues for farming communities across the state.

Meanwhile, SKM leader Darshan Pal announced plans for a nationwide agitation on August 10, including “Jail Bharo” and “Rail Roko” protests against what the organisation described as anti-farmer policies. The farmers' body is also demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support prices, repeal of certain free trade agreements and a comprehensive farm loan waiver programme.
