Bullets seized from passenger

Chennai: The CISF personnel today seized four bullets from a passenger bound for Coimbatore on a Paramount Airways flight at the airport here.
A PWD contractor from Palayamkottai, Murugesan (47) went into the check-in area with the cartridges. CISF personnel, on on checking his bag, found the bullets.
When questioned, Murugesan produced the licence for the cartridges and claimed that he had forgotten to declare them.
He was let off after the bullets were seized, airport sources said, adding that Murugesan later cancelled his trip.
The Paramount flight, which was scheduled to leave at 1400 hrs, was delayed by half an hour due to the incident.

Paramount eyeing for stakes in other airlines

Chennai: Paramount Airways aims at acquiring stakes in other airlines as part of its plans for a pan-India presence by 2011, according to its top official.
"If an opportunity comes up, Paramount is open to acquire stake in other airlines, provided the synergies and pricing factors are right," M Thiagarajan, Managing Director of the Madurai-based private airline, told the media.
"We have now clearly established a leadership role in the South with 26 per cent market share with a fleet of five aircraft and 1,600 flights every month," he said.
Paramount would move into other markets after further consolidating its position in the South.
"We will add to the fleet as we expand into the Western markets by 2008," Thiagarajan said.
Paramount had placed orders for 15 Brazian-made Embraer aircraft and five of these are already in operation.

Air services restored partially in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Running of ATR flights was partially restored in the airport here today, two days after a Paramount Airways aircraft overshot the runway, forcing cancellation of all flights from the port city.
However, big flights have been cancelled for the third consecutive day today.
Visakhpatnam Airport Controller C Pattabhi told UNI here that Paramount's Embraer flight, which got stuck at the end of the runway, would be completely removed by this evening. Naval help had been sought for the purpose.
A technical team from Hyderabad arrived here and inspected the runway. The team also went into how the incident happened.

Plane lands on a yet-to-be cleared runway in Andhra

A Paramount Airways plane with 70 passengers on board landed on a yet-to-be cleared runway and overshot the track.
No one was injured in the incident.
The pilot of Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam flight lost control seconds before landing and by mistake landed on a runway that was yet to be cleared for operations.
The plane went into the bushes and came to a halt, Air Traffic Controller Pattabhi said adding all passengers were safe.The flight took off from Hyderabad at 9.55 am and reached Visakhapatnam at 10.55 am.
As a result of the incident, several flights to and from Visakhapatnam including those of Indian, Air Sahara and Air-Deccan have been cancelled.
