Chopper med service for Himalayan Darshan tourists

Dehradun: The state government on Sunday announced that it would take steps to ensure that tourists taking the Himalayan Darshan flight to view the snow-capped mountains this winter would be given proper medical attention. An air medical service, 'Hawai Ambulance Seva', will soon be launched.

"We will introduce the Air Medical Service helicopters on the lines of the 108 medical service, just days after the Himalayan Darshan Yatra flights begin operations to show tourists snow-capped peaks of the Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas. Those flights are scheduled to begin from the first week of December," said a senior officer in the state civil aviation department.

At a meeting at Kaviltha village in Rudraprayag's Kalimath Valley, 175 km from Dehradun, chief minister Harish Rawat said on Sunday that he had asked officials at the civil aviation department to work out a plan to ascertain the exact number of medical service helicopters that will be required. The precise number of the medical helicopters would depend on the number of tourists arriving for the Himalayan Darshan flights, the CM said.
