Itanagar: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed on Wednesday at the Itanagar permanent bench of the Gauhati high court to speed up construction of the greenfield airport at Hollongi.
Payi Gyadi of Barapani Naharlagun filed the PIL against the Centre, which was represented by the secretary of the civil aviation ministry and six others. The petitioner prayed to expedite the construction of the airport in Papum Pare district.
The court heard counsel for petitioner Kento Jini, assistant solicitor general Pritam Taffo representing the Centre, and state government counsel senior advocate general Kardak Ete and government advocate Hage Laxmi. It issued a notice of motion, returnable within four weeks, calling upon the respondents (the Centre and the state governments) to show cause why a rule should not be issued, as appealed by the petitioner and why such an order should not be passed.
